Mary Deupree and John Cheaney

Mary Deupree (1784-1834) m. 1801 John Cheaney (c1770-c1852). They moved from Charlotte Co., Va., to Nicholas Co., Ky, prob. between 1805 and 1808, where he remained for both 1820 and 1830 censuses. By 1840, he had moved to Henderson Co., Ky., but by 1849, he was living in Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Ky. Six children:

M1. William Deupree Cheaney (1802-betw 1880/88) m. 1823 Ellen/Eleanor Bowen (c1805-1888) They lived in Nicholas Co., Ky, for the 1830 census, Henderson Co., Ky. for the 1840-1880 censuses, and Evansville, Ind. where she is buried. Nine children:

M1A. Julia H. Cheaney (1824-1861) m 1849 Strother Sisson (1820-1889). He married again after her death. She is buried in Henderson Co., Ky. Five children:
- M1A i. William A. Sisson (c1850- ), m 1874 Mary C. "Katie" Walker (d. 1928) Moved to St. Louis County, MO. Five children, two of whom died in childhood. The three who survived to adulthood:
  - M1Ai a. Rupert Sisson (1878-1934). Moved to Cleveland, m. Ella Stoner and had seven children.
  - M1Ai b. Vinton Earl Sisson (1881->1935) m. Adelaide Howe and had one child.

- M1A ii. Annie Ellen Sisson (1852-1920) m Strother McGinnis. They moved to St. Louis and had four children:

M1B. John Robert Cheaney (1825/7-1894) m(1) 1853 Ann S. Tillotson (1838-1855) m(2) 1869 Margaret Ellen Mattingly (1848-1939). He and his second wife are buried in Evansville, Ind.although she moved to Texas with some of her children and died there. At least nine children, all from his second marriage:

There are eight known children, four of whom are "infant" burials in Fernwood Cemetery, Henderson, Ky. The other four were:

M1D. Alfred Cheaney (c1832-before 1892), nothing further known. May have gone out west.
M1E. Martha Elizabeth Cheaney (c1833/6-1865/9) m 1853 John Allen Sisson (c1828- ater 1880). In the 1850 census, Willliam D. Cheaney has a daughter Elizabeth. The marriage record from Henderson Co., Ky. is for a Martha E. Cheaney but has the consent of the father, William D. Cheaney, and the signature matches that on his letters. John Sisson is in the 1860 census with a wife Mary E., aged 24, which has be a mistake for Martha, who is listed in Henderson Co. KY birth records as the mother of the first two children below. John Sisson m(2) Elizabeth Wright (widow with children) in 1869 and is living in Daviess Co. KY in 1880 with four new children in addition to the children from his first marriage..

M1E i. Mary Eletta Sisson (1853- 1932) m. c1881, prob. Daviess Co., KY, Charles Henry Cox (1853-1911). They moved to Louisville, KY, where he was a policeman. Two children:

M2. Elizabeth Ann Cheaney (1804-1872) m(1) 1823 John R. Graves (d c1837), m(2) 1855 James Sanders. By 1830 the Graves family was living in Henderson Co., Ky. She moved in with her father after her first husband died moved to Christian Co., Ky. by 1850, married her second husband there, died and is buried there. Five children:

- M6C i. Mary Elizabeth Grigsby (1865-1950) m. 1888 Harry Arthur van Gordon (1860-1927). They lived in Ellis Co. TX until his death; she then moved to Dallas. Six children:
  - M6Ci a. Jennie Augusta van Gordon (1888-1974) m. 1909 Neil Sims. Texas. Three children.
  - M6Ci b. Nannie Pearl van Gordon (1890-1974) m. Charles Hutton Magee. Three children.
  - M6Ci c. Anna Adleta van Gordon (1893-1925) m. 1916 Edward Ernest Alkire. Three children.
  - M6Ci d. Mary Elizabeth van Gordon (1985-1981). Not married.
  - M6Ci e. Emma Virginia van Gordon (1898-1976) m. 1927 Archibald T. Crane. One child

- M6C ii. Hattie Pearl Grigsby (1874-1941) m c1891 William A. Jackson (d. before 1900). She married twice more, but her only children were from her first marriage. She lived in Ellis Co., TX. Two children:

  - M6Ciib. Grigsby Burton Jackson (1894-mid 1940's) m. Ruth McNaughton. One child.
- M6C iii. Mark Grigsby died young.
- M6C iv. Van Grigsby died young.
M6D. Price Cheaney (1859-1928) m(1) Porah Boswell (1860-1898), m(2) Mary Lou Hall (1871-1903), m(3) 1905 Laura Marie Roynon (1869-1956). They lived and are all buried in Dallas TX. He was a dentist. Five children, two from his first marriage, two from the second marriage, and one adopted with his third wife:

- M6D v. Edith Green Cheaney adopted as a young girl, m Winfield Oldham. Two children:

  - M6Dv b. Winfield Buford Oldham Jr. (1933-1999) married with two children.
